Back in the Spring, Helen and Alex asked me along to photograph their DIY Village Hall wedding in Dorset.
We started with a ceremony in the elegant main room of Poole Guildhall. The ceremony room really is a dream for a photographer. The large windows let in plenty of light and the balconies on either side of the room offer a unique perspective not available to the guests. With its sweeping external staircases the building itself offers great opportunities for group portraits – you’ve got to make sure you get a photo with your Nan after all!
When we met up for their pre-wedding consultations, Helen and Alex told me that the beach was really important to them as they are kite surfers. We couldn’t quite manage to get Helen on a board in her wedding dress but they were really keen on taking the time to go to the beach for some romantic portraits just after the ceremony. We headed off to Sandbanks Beach and spent some time with just the two of them to get some beautiful portraits.
With the newlywed’s portraits completed it was back to Horton Village Hall for a relaxed reception. The reception was full of lovely handmade and personal touches, and you could really sense the effort and love that everyone had poured into it.
